Ten Things of Thankful

11 Jan

The first full week of the new year is in the books. Overall, not too bad. We started off the week with a long date day. We went to the BCS Championship where we saw our alma mater, Florida State win the championship in a nail biter of a game. I know I can never be an undergrad at FSU again, but it was nice to be in that college environment for the most part of the day. It really felt like home.

With that, I’ll list my 10 things of thankful

1) Being at the BCS Championship. Our longest time away from our son. It definitely helped recharge my batteries.

2) Andrew took a long nap today. He’s been very clingy all week so I’m glad he got some extra rest today…and mama too.

3) Speaking of rest, while little man took a long nap, mama got to unwind while watching some figure skating.

4) And speaking of figure skating, I learned a new move during my lesson yesterday, the backwards 3 turn.

5) My husband has been under the weather lately. While I’m not thankful for that, I am glad that Andrew was in a good mood because it was essentially me watching him all day.

6) Caught up with a lot of my mommy friends this week. Some I hadn’t seen in over a month.

7) Got news that our sitter is able to watch Andrew three times next week which is great because I’m still playing catch up from vacation.

8) I’m happy to report that I’ve been staying on top of my chores & to do list. Having a planner to write things out definitely helps.

9) Today’s gym class was a piece of cake. It was my first one in 3 weeks and I surprisingly had a lot of energy afterwards.

10) Back to clean eating…and it feels great.

Happy New Year! I’m glad to be getting back into the swing of things. I mentioned before that I am so ready for the holidays to be over. Yes, I realize it’s been two weeks since Christmas, but we are just getting around to taking our tree down today. It’s a new year, I’m glad I have a chance to start over, and I have so much to be thankful for this week.

1) Did I mention I am glad 2014 is here? 2013 was a very trying year for me & I refuse to say that two years in a row, so this year is all about focusing on the positive.

2) I am glad my dad came to visit. It sucks not having family around & I wish he lived locally so he could see Andrew grow. However,we’re averaging seeing him twice a year, so it’s better than nothing.

3) Speaking of my dad, I’m glad we got extra help these last two weeks. He was the one that picked up Andrew every morning after he woke up, fed him breakfast, and played with him. Mat & I were happy to get some extra sleep, my dad was happy that he got to bond w/ his grandson. Everyone wins.

4) My dad has always been supportive & encouraging, but just hearing him say he was proud of me made me feel great.

5) I got back into journaling. I got a freebie journal in a swag bag a few years ago & I decided to put into use last month. It’s so therapeutic getting my thoughts out there.

6) I’m proud of how far I’ve come in ice skating. Fear held me back for a while when I first started. Sure, I’m still terrified of barreling down the ice at full speed & THEN jumping, but I’ve come a long way. On New Year’s Eve, I did jump combos for the first time. I’m very proud & so was my coach!

7)  I’m looking forward to the longest date ever. We’re going to the BCS Championship tomorrow! We haven’t seen an FSU game since we were in college & I’m so glad they’re coming out here to play. Go Noles!

8) I’m glad to have our regular sitter come back & watch Andrew 3x/week this month after not having her a whole month. It’s  been very trying being a stay at home mom all day & I look forward to having some of my me time back.

9) Andrew just makes me laugh a lot these days. He’s grown to be a funny little boy always trying to make new sounds. It’s just cute to here.

10) Finally, thank you for Skype! My dad may have gone back home, but I’m glad that Andrew will still be able to see grandpa online until the next time we see each other again. Maybe he’ll read him a story too.

Wow, it’s been a really busy week. Two cookie parties, a trip to a new bakery,Stella & Dot party and some skating in the mix as well.

It was a fun week but to be honest, I am so worn out & I feel like an old lady. I need a vacation from my week for sure! Before I get all cranky, I’d like to reflect on what I’m thankful for this week.

1) As cranky as I sound, I AM thankful I was busy this week. Yes I’m not a spring chicken anymore & need extra time to recoup, but at the same time, I get bored super easily. So with a week like this past one, there was no time for that at all.

2) One of the most things I’m thankful for this week is getting my grandma’s ring back. We were burglarized 3 years ago & I never thought I’d see this ring again. I am so glad to have it back & I’m guarding it with my life. It gives me just a bit of closure.

3) I got to catch up with two friends whom I rarely see this week. I’m still used to the life I had in college which included friends living just up the street. It’s something I miss. So I enjoy seeing my friends when I can since our visits are fewer these days.

4) I’m thankful my car didn’t break down during both of my long trips over to see my friends. I’m also thankful I made it to their houses & back to mine safely.

5) My son has been sick this week. The worst he’s been since he was born. I’m thankful that the pediatrician is only a phone call away & I’m thankful my husband is helping me take care of our sick little one.

6) Since my son has been sick, he’s been a lot more snuggly. I’m taking full advantage of this since he likes to run and play when he’s feeling well.

7) I’m thankful for my skating family and my coaches who encourage me, especially with a sport in which you spend years learning & refining basic elements.

8) I am so glad I finished my needlepoint this year. I started it in August when I thought I gave myself enough time to finish it before Christmas. Then I started doubting myself, but I in fact finished 10 days before. Whew!

9) I’m glad I joined MOMS club. I’m still fairly new but it looks to be a good group.

10) As cheesy as it sounds, I’m thankful you’re reading this. There’s been several times this year when I was thinking of quitting my blog. It hasn’t been as easy  has been difficult to keep up, more so than my food blog. But your comments are encouraging.

1 Dec

Well it’s round 2 of my 10 things of thankful. It’s one of my favorite months of the year behind October & June, so I have plenty to be thankful for.

1) December is a month like nothing else. Maybe I still view it as a child, but there’s nothing wrong with that. I still see December as a time when the world is a bit brighter & people are a bit nicer. Like a child, I wish they stayed like that all through the year.

2) Tying in with that cozy feeling, is the festiveness it brings. I’m one of those people that doesn’t start decorating or listening to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving & it’s finally that time. We got the tree up yesterday, and we’ll turn on the radio to the station that plays only Christmas music and get crazy festive up in here.

3) I’m looking forward to all those holiday parties that I’ve already marked on my calendar. Definitely going to wear my fat pants to those

4) Speaking of fat pants, I’m so glad Thanksgiving dinner was a success. We brined the turkey for the first time, a task that was so intimidating, but turned out so well. Also equally as tasty were the sweet potato souffle, stuffing, and pumpkin chiffon pie.

5) I’m also thankful I have a gym membership where I burned off said Thanksgiving dinner. That was not an easy workout either.

6) I know we’ve got a month to go, but I’m already looking forward to 2014 and December goes so fast that it’ll be here before we know it. I’m really not into this sort of thing, but the year of the snake hasn’t been kind to me.

7) After reading the one and only Considerings‘ post today, I too am thankful to have a life long friend. I don’t have many friends from childhood except her. I’ve known her since I was 5. It doesn’t matter how long we go without talking to each other, the next time we chat, we pick up where we left off. It’s never awkward or weird.

8) I’m glad I watched that Auburn vs Alabama game last night. The ending was just unreal & I’m sure it’ll go down in history, especially since it was replayed the rest of the night.

9) Thankful for big breakfasts on Sundays. There’s nothing like family time around a big meal.

10) Last & most certainly not least, I’m thankful all my family in the Philippines is ok. Especially thankful for my aunt who was in the direct path of the storm. I know she wasn’t able to make it home for Thanksgiving but I hope she does for Christmas.

A Thankful November

24 Nov

Happy 25th Ten Things of Thankful! Looks like I picked a good week to finally join the party. This month has been especially long for me, so it was a challenge to look back & think of ten things to be grateful for but I finally got it.

1) I am especially thankful for my sitter. For those that don’t know, I’m an ice skater & over the past year, my husband has watched my son & worked from home so I can skate. Of course, I wouldn’t be able to stay at the rink too long because juggling a baby while working is not an easy gig. So now that we have a sitter, it gives me an opportunity to spend more time at the rink to practice, unwind & have time to myself & even conversations with other adults.

2) I’m also thankful for my husband and his willingness to watch our son on the weekends so I can have some time to myself. Without him, I probably wouldn’t be able to write this post.

3) I’m thankful for my 17 month old. He is shy at first, but once he warms up, he is one chatty & funny little boy.

4) Here’s to indoor playgrounds! They sure beat staying in the house all day when it rains.

5) And here’s to the doggie playgrounds too. So glad there’s a dog park nearby so our feisty golden mix can get her playtime too. My son did have fun trying to keep up with her & saying “daaaaaa” the whole time too.

6) It’s cliche at this point but I’m thankful for the internet & my cell phone especially since we don’t have much family here. Keeping in touch is much more easy with this thing and I don’t know what I’d do without it. Bonus points for Skype which allows all of us to see each other until the next time we’re there in person.

7) I am thankful for my brother, my only immediate family member that lives out here & I look forward to spending Thanksgiving with him.

8) Speaking of Thanksgiving, I’m glad it’s going to be very low key this year, just the 4 of us and let’s face it, I’m thankful for leftovers.

9) I am grateful for moms night out. For allowing me a chance to connect with other mamas, and for letting this food blogger try new restaurants without any interruptions.

10) Lastly, I’m glad December is around the corner. The holiday season never gets old & I’m glad to take part in yet another one.
